Key Responsibilities
- Assist certified staff in the classroom, reinforcing reading, language arts, mathematics, and other essential skills for PreK students.
- Work individually and in small groups with students to implement assigned programs, adapt instructional materials, and support diverse learning needs.
- Help administer and correct classroom exercises, tests, and assessments, providing valuable feedback to teachers.
- Participate in classroom preparations, record-keeping, and behavioral management to ensure a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment.
- Supervise students in non-instructional areas, such as lunch, bus duty, and playground duty, promoting a positive and respectful atmosphere.
- Accompany students on field trips, providing additional support and supervision as needed.
- Develop and distribute educational materials, leveraging technology to enhance learning experiences.
- Foster effective parent-teacher relationships by assisting with parent contact and communication.
- Support students with special needs, participating in the IEP process and serving as a resource for the student personnel evaluation team.
- Assist with activities of daily living for students with disabilities, maximizing their ability to participate in school activities.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to safety rules and procedures, ensuring a secure and supportive environment for all students.
- Collaborate with other paraprofessionals, counseling staff, and building administration as needed, performing additional duties as assigned.
Essential and Preferred Qualifications
To excel in this role, you'll need a combination of education, experience, and skills that demonstrate your ability to support students and teachers effectively.
Essential Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent; 48 hours of college credit or passage of the ParaPro test highly preferred.
- Ability to follow instructions, perform basic arithmetic operations, and use personal computers and software applications.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse groups and maintain confidentiality.
- Compassionate and supportive demeanor, with a strong commitment to student-centered education.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in educational settings, particularly with PreK students or those with special needs.
- Proficiency in educational software and technology, with a willingness to learn and adapt to new tools.
- Previous participation in IEP processes or experience working with students with diverse abilities.
