Apify is a web scraping and browser automation platform. Thousands of developers worldwide build and run web scrapers using our cloud. Many developers later publish and monetize their tools on the Apify Store. Solopreneurs, startups, and Fortune 500 companies all use Apify to extract data from billions of web pages and automate millions of manual tasks every month.

To support this mission, Apify is looking for a mid-level or senior Technical Writer to handle the documentation needs of different product teams. If you have past technical writing experience, programming understanding, and can explain complex concepts clearly, join our team in Prague, Brno, or remotely.

What you’ll be working on:

Currently, our Technical Writer, Michal, works mainly as an editor for texts created by Developers, Product Managers, and others. We now want to expand the team to divide the Product teams and have an assigned Technical Writer for specific teams.

We’re looking for two Technical Writers who would cover two distinct areas:

  1. One for Apify Console, our main platform, with Apify Store and the entire ecosystem of Actor creation, usage, publishing, and monetization.

  2. The second is for developer tools and more technical features in Apify Console, such as Apify SDK and CLI, APIs, Crawlee, storage, or proxies.

Since this will involve shaping future collaboration with the engineering teams, we’re looking for mid-level or senior Technical Writers with experience collaborating within the development process.

The development teams work in an agile environment with two-week sprints. The main tooling involves ZenHub, GitHub, and Slack. Our documentation is then written in Markdown and built with Docusaurus. You’ll be primarily exposed to JavaScript and occasionally Python.

Apify is built mainly for developers and low-code/no-code integrators, so this technical writing is quite technical. At the same time, Apify’s user base is growing, and we’re seeing more users who need to understand the functionality without diving into code or reading complex technical descriptions. So, creating content that is precise for an engineer yet accessible for non-technical audiences is key.

When we’re not writing or reviewing, we’re currently looking into revamping Apify Academy. We’re also in the early stages of different projects, such as learning how to use AI to our advantage or how to measure and express the impact of documentation.
