We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our Health Care Human Resources team at the University of Iowa. As a Payroll Specialist, you will play a critical role in enhancing the operations of our HR department by providing expert guidance and support to staff members and departmental representatives on payroll policies and procedures. This hybrid position offers the flexibility to work from a location within the state of Iowa, with occasional on-site requirements. You will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, interpreting and promoting compliance with payroll policies and procedures, and auditing standard reports to ensure accuracy and completeness of payroll data. Your key responsibilities will include: Providing guidance and instructions to staff members and managers/supervisors on payroll policies and procedures, including ELMS, AFSCME, and SEIU contract rules Interpreting and promoting compliance with payroll policies and procedures, and monitoring for compliance Auditing standard reports to ensure completeness and accuracy of payroll data Processing payroll corrections and assisting with closing biweekly pay periods in ELMS Maintaining knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, particularly around payroll issues Creating positive interactions with staff to enhance employee relations and applying collective bargaining agreements in administering payroll policies and procedures In addition to your technical expertise, you will also be expected to provide general HR support, including assisting the UI Health Care Payroll Manager with gathering and communicating information, developing new human resources services or programs, and providing phone coverage and answering questions as directed. To be successful in this role, you will need: A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience 1-3 years of human resources experience, with a focus on payroll functions Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide exceptional customer service Proficiency in computer software applications, with the ability to learn new systems and technologies Demonstrated experience and ability to work in a fast-paced, high-transaction volume environment Desired qualifications include PHR or SPHR certification and working knowledge of state and federal regulations affecting human resources. This is a full-time, professional and scientific position, with a pay level of 3A.
