We are seeking an experienced engineer or R&D consultant to support a feasibility study on wireless telemetry in extreme industrial environments. The project is carried out in collaboration with a French nuclear energy company (Blue Capsule).
Project Scope:
• Assess technical feasibility of wireless communication between sensors and a control room in harsh conditions.
• Environment specifics:
• High temperature: ambient up to 150–200 °C.
• Radiation: high-dose areas (comparable to nuclear plant containment).
• Obstructions: concrete + metal shielding.
• Distance: from a few meters inside the unit up to ~1 km between the module and the client’s control room.
• Focus only on telemetry (read-only data), no remote actuation at this stage.
• Technologies of interest:
• RF with thermal shielding/housings (WirelessHART, ISA100, Sub-GHz, UWB, LoRa).
• Magnetic induction links.
• Ultrasonic/acoustic channels.
• Fiber-optic / optical solutions for critical signals.
• Deliverables:
1. Technology comparison matrix (pros/cons, TRL, vendors).
2. High-level system architecture proposal.
3. Recommendations for potential vendors or components.
⸻
Requirements:
• Proven experience with wireless communication systems in industrial / Oil&Gas / nuclear / aerospace / defense environments.
• Strong knowledge of RF propagation in obstructed environments and/or alternative data transmission technologies (magnetic induction, acoustics, fiber optics).
• Familiarity with relevant standards (IEC 61508, IEC 62988, I&C in nuclear, EMC/EMI).
• Ability to deliver desk research and high-level technical documentation.
⸻
Nice to have:
• Previous work with nuclear facilities, harsh environment sensors, or Oil&Gas telemetry systems.
• Knowledge of safety-class systems and accident-mode requirements.
⸻
What we provide:
• Clear technical context and RFP baseline.
• Collaboration with our internal team (IT/software background) and partner company.
• Potential follow-up for prototyping and long-term collaboration.
⸻
How to apply:
Please include in your proposal:
1. Relevant past projects (harsh environments, wireless telemetry, nuclear, Oil&Gas, aerospace).
2. Your approach to conducting a feasibility study.
3. Availability and estimated timeline to deliver the first draft report.
